Toddlers grow in confidence, learn to make sense of their feelings with support, and explore what they can do for themselves.
Ages 6 to 18 months
Wrens is our room for babies, from 6 to around 18 months, upstairs in Treetops. It is a calm, unhurried space where little ones settle with adults who know them well.

Wrens is for our youngest children, from 6 to 18 months, upstairs in Treetops. Close relationships are central to their care. Your baby has a primary and secondary key person who build a relationship with both of you, helping them feel safe and cared for as they become familiar with nursery.
Babies use their senses to discover the world around them and develop their movement. In Wrens, their interests guide their play, with adults there to support and build on what they are learning. Children can move between the Treetops rooms with familiar staff alongside them. Adults organise resources for open-ended play, giving children opportunities to explore and make choices. This freedom is part of our approach throughout The Manor House, beginning with our youngest children.

Mealtimes and naps help shape your baby’s day. We follow the sleep routine they have at home, and mealtimes are the point when we pause play. Before your baby starts, settling-in visits give them time to get used to being here, with longer sessions that include eating and sleeping. You stay for the first session, and we work with you to arrange additional visits if your baby needs them.
Come and see it for yourself
Book a tourGetting to know your baby continues as they settle into nursery. We add to their All About Me record over the first six weeks, helping us understand them as an individual. Working closely with families is central to our approach, alongside giving babies the support to explore, develop and make choices with adults nearby. Your baby has a two-week settling-in period before they start. For the first hour-long visit, you'll stay to complete the paperwork while they play and get familiar with the surroundings. Next comes an hour without you, followed by longer visits that give them a chance to eat and sleep here. If they need extra sessions, we’ll arrange these with you. There's more about settling in on our About page.
Sleep in Wrens follows the routine your baby already has at home. We ask how they like to settle and when they usually nap, then keep checking in with you as that changes. Routines shift quickly at this age, so we adjust as often as we need to.
Mealtimes are when we pause play so babies can eat. Before your baby starts, their longer settling-in visits give them a chance to have a meal here as they get used to nursery. If they need extra visits, we’ll arrange these with you.
Children move from Wrens into Sparrows at around 18 months, staying upstairs in Treetops until around 2 years. They can already explore between the Treetops rooms with staff alongside them. Sparrows spans both upstairs and downstairs, allowing a gradual move towards the more open, free-flow space in Woodlands.
Your baby's key person will talk you through sleep, food and mood at pick-up each day. We also send regular photos and updates through our online app, so you can see how your baby is getting on.
We have a qualified special educational needs and disabilities coordinator (SENDCo) on site to support children with additional needs. We use individual support plans and work with external agencies. Our team also uses Thrive to support wellbeing and emotional development, and WellComm for speech and language.
